Application Process

Letter of Inquiry
We do not accept unsolicited proposals for support, but we offer organizations new to the foundation the opportunity to introduce their programs to us through a Letter of Inquiry, using our easy online submission process.

  • Please refer to Information Requirements for help in preparing your Letter of Inquiry.  You have the ability to cut and paste from any document on your own computer that you have created offline. Submissions will generate an email confirmation of receipt. Some, but not all, submissions may be followed up with a personal reply, and/or request for additional information or site visit. If your LOI is approved, you will be contacted with an invitation to submit a full application.
  • Our Letter of Inquiry is not a formal proposal for funding, so please do not consider this a ‘pending’ grant request. This is intended to be a simple and quick way to let the foundation know about the work you are doing.

Application Stage

  • New Organizations
If your LOI is approved, you may submit a full application for funding using the same login procedure as was used
to complete your LOI. Please select “New Organization Application”.
  • Returning Organizations
If you have received a grant in the past five years, you are considered a Returning Organization.
Select “New Project” or “Continuing Project”. The deadlines for the initial submission of your application can found on the Deadlines & Eligibility page.

Upon initial submission, all applications will enter a clarification and dialogue period during which the Foundation may request additional information. The application will be made available to the applicant and must be re-submitted when the content has been revised.

Evaluation Stage
Upon final submission after clarification is complete, applications will go to the Foundation Trustees for evaluation. Decisions will be made during a biannual meeting. Notifications will be made according to the timeline set forth on the Deadlines & Eligibility page.

Fax to File service
This is a service provided free of charge to you that converts your fax into a PDF file and is then emailed back to you. This can be used for any paper documentation that needs to be converted into an electronic format (PDF). It is recommended that you fax each document separately as one PDF file is made per fax.

You will only have to reguster once and your user name and password is good for all future grant programs. If you are unable to use the online system please contact Amity Wicks at info@rstrust.orgor 805-964-9999.For more detailed instructions, refer to Application Instructions.
